Thirteen Lamar Seniors Ready For Graduation Day

May 12, 2005

BEAUMONT - Over a dozen of Lamar's men's and women's student-athletes are scheduled to graduate on Saturday in commencement ceremonies at the Montagne Center.

This list, which consists of team members from the baseball, men's basketball, golf and track and field teams, includes several all-conference and record-breaking performers.

Representing the men's and women's golf teams are Shawn Stefani and Casey Cain. A native of Baytown, Stefani will leave Lamar with a degree in general studies. In four years at LU, he was a three-time all-conference selection, including first team honors as a junior. Cain, a Lumberton product, will earn a degree in psychology after a stellar career at Lamar. She finished her career as the only three-time first team all-SLC selection in league history. Cain was also freshman of the year in 2002 and she helped guide the Lady Cardinals to a pair of conference titles.

Four members of the men's and women's track and field teams will walk during Saturday's festivities. Seniors Amanda Havens, Rachel Ince and Candace Taylor will represent the women's squad, while Trenton Price represents the men's team. All four athletes spent their entire collegiate careers at Lamar. Taylor, a native of League City, is a five-time all-conference selection in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Price, a product of Arlington, is a two-time all-SLC honoree. Both student-athletes hold times which rank among LU's best-ever in indoor and outdoor track.

Graduating from the baseball team is Sam Huff, Chase Richards, Trey Rinando, Brian Shallock and Trey Swor. Huff, Shallock and Richards will all earn degrees in general studies, while Rinando will graduate with a degree in Management. Swor, a native of Austin, will earn a degree in general studies during the August graduation ceremony.

Men's basketball players Raymond Anthony and Teddy Davis are also on pace to graduate in August of this year. Both men will take summer classes to complete their respective degrees in general studies. Anthony, a native of Aurora, Illinois, earned third team all-SLC honors this season after averaging 15.5 points and 4.3 assists per game.
