BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's golf program will close out the regular season on Monday and Tuesday as they are set to host the annual Cardinal Challenge at the Beaumont Country Club.
 
The Cardinal Challenge will be played on the greens of the Beaumont Country Club. The par 72, 6094-yard course is long famous for towering pine trees that crowd narrow fairways, was completely renovated during 2004.  In a project directed by Houston golf course architect, Baxter Spann, the course was rebuilt by Landscapes Unlimited, LLC, one of the largest golf course development companies in the United States.  All tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, and greens were reconstructed, and new drainage and irrigation systems were installed.
 
The two-day event will consist of 36 holes on day one with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Day two will follow the same format of day one but will consist of just the final round.
 
The 2021 12-team tournament field includes host Lamar, Dixie State, Houston Baptist, McNeese State, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston, Southern Mississippi, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, ULM, UT Arlington and UTRGV.
 
Last year's edition of the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. In the 2019 edition, the Cardinals finished third with a card of a 60-over par 912.
