Randy Schneider

Randy Schneider is in his sixth season at Lamar University, and his fifth as associate head coach.

An indefatigable recruiter, Schneider has been instrumental in landing five recruiting classes that have been ranked tops in the Southland Conference by All-Star Girls report. Those classes have helped the Cardinals win two regular-season conference championships and make three appearances in a national postseason tournament over Schneider’s first five seasons at LU.

Schneider’s recruits include two Southland Conference freshmen of the year: Kiara Desamours in 2015-16 and Jadyn Pimentel in 2017-18; Moe Kinard, the 2016-17 Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year; and Chastadie Barrs, who has been named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year an unprecedented three times.

Schneider is also heavily involved in the team’s practice sessions and scouting, and is also responsible for scheduling non-conference games, arranging for the Cardinals to face some of the nation’s top programs including Baylor, Texas A&M, Oregon, Oklahoma and Mississippi State.

The veteran coach has helped the Cardinals become one of the top defensive teams in the nation, as LU has led the nation in steals, turnovers forced and turnover margin in each of the past two seasons.

Schneider was an assistant coach at St. Thomas University in Florida for six seasons on the staff of current LU head coach Robin Harmony.  During his time at St. Thomas, the Bobcats had six consecutive seasons of at least 20 wins, advanced to the NAIA Tournament on three occasions and were ranked as high as 11th in the nation.

In his last season at St. Thomas, the Bobcats posted the best record in program history, going 27-4, including a perfect 14-0 mark in the Sun Conference.

Prior to his time at St. Thomas, Schneider coached girls high school basketball for eight seasons, posting a 131-57 record, reaching the state tournament seven times.

Schneider also served as a head coach of the Premier Jaguars AAU basketball team in Miami and the Miami Suns, one of the premier AAU clubs in the nation. Schneider coached four players who went on to compete in the WNBA.

Schneider, a native of Miami, graduated cum laude from Florida International University in 1998, earning a bachelor’s degree in education.

He resides in Beaumont with his wife, Jennifer, and daughter, Taylor.
