Hana Haden, who was named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s 30 Under 30 list in 2017, enters her second season as assistant coach at Lamar University after serving two seasons as head coach at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Haden’s main duties include working with the team’s guards and monitoring the academic progress of the student-athletes. Haden also assists with scouting reports on future LU opponents. Haden’s work with the guards helped the Cardinals produce a pair of first-team All-Southland guards (Chastadie Barrs and Moe Kinard) in 2017-18, along with a third-team selection in DeA’ngela Mathis and the conference’s freshman of the year in Jadyn Pimentel.
In her two seasons at Harris-Stowe, Haden led the Hornets to consecutive 19-win seasons, the first back-to-back winning seasons for the NAIA program in almost 30 years. Haden produced one honorable mention All-American, five American Midwest Conference players and 12 academic all-conference student-athletes in her two years.
Haden graduated cum laude from Western Carolina University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in communication with concentrations in journalism and broadcast journalism. She played two years for the Catamounts as the starting point guard and captain of the women’s basketball team. As a senior, she scored in double figures five times, including a career-high 18 points. She also led the team to the Southern Conference semifinals for the first time in six years during her senior year. She was second on the team in assists both seasons.
Prior to graduating from Western Carolina, Haden attended and played basketball at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (2010-2011) and Mineral Area College (2011-2012), where she was named honorable mention all-region and ranked seventh in the nation in assists.
After graduating from Western Carolina, Haden served as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. At UMSL, Haden’s primary responsibilities were recruiting prospective student-athletes, player development, overseeing academics, and producing scouting reports on opponents. She was also integral in helping produce two all-conference selections for the Tritons.
Originally from Springfield, Missouri, Haden attended Kickapoo High School for three years before graduating from national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia.
