Cardinals eighth after opening day of Tulane Classic

AVONDALE, La. — Lamar University sits eighth in the 12-team field after 36 holes of the Tulane Classic on Tuesday at TPC Louisiana.

The Cardinals recorded nine birdies and 116 pars through two rounds, the third-most pars in the tournament.

Marta Romero Crespo led Lamar's effort, carding three birdies and 12 pars in the opening round to finish at even par.

She made six consecutive pars on the back nine and followed that with another even-par back nine in the second round, highlighted by a birdie on No. 12.

Crespo closed the back nine with six consecutive pars and sits among the top 10 on the individual leaderboard.

Kamaya Moodliar also turned in a strong day, shooting even par on the front nine in the opening round with seven pars and a birdie.

She added a birdie and five pars on the back nine.

During the second round, Moodliar shot even par on the back nine, recording two birdies and five pars.

Siria Ballini chipped in a birdie on the 17th hole while Matilda Samervong opened her second round with nine consecutive pars on the front nine.

Tulane leads the team standings with a 36-hole score of 586 (293-293), seven strokes ahead of second-place Southern Miss.

Individually, Tulane's Louise Cuyvers holds the lead at 142 (67-75), one stroke ahead of San Diego State's Amelia Garibaldi and Tulane's Francesca Pompa.
