Women's golf begins season at Tulane Classic

BEAUMONT, Texas — Golf season is underway as Lamar University returns to the course for the fall portion of its schedule.

The Lamar women open the season at the Tulane Classic, scheduled for Sept. 8-9 at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, La.

The two-day tournament begins 8 a.m. Tuesday and concludes Wednesday.

FRESH START: Julie Aime was named Lamar's associate head coach and will oversee the women's program … Aime enjoyed a 10-year professional career on the LPGA and Ladies European tours … She was named the Epson Tour Rookie of the Year in 2019 and competed in 89 events from 2019-23, recording seven top 10 finishes … A three-time All-Southland Conference selection at Lamar, Aime earned first-team honors in 2013 and helped lead the Cardinals to a Southland Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Regionals.

RETURNERS: Lamar returns three letter winners from last season, including two seniors and one sophomore.

RETURNERS TO WATCH:
  • Kamaya Moodliar, So. (30 rounds): Finished second on the team with a 76.9 stroke average, recorded a team-best five rounds at par or better and carded a season-low 69 in the second round of the Wolverine Invitational on Sept. 8.
  • Amanda Davidsson, Sr. (24 rounds): Posted a 79.6 stroke average.
  • Montana Di Leo, Sr. (18 rounds): Recorded a 78.7 stroke average.
NEWCOMERS: The Cardinals added two newcomers to the roster and welcomed a transfer who joined the program last spring but did not see tournament action.

NEW ADDITIONS: SPOTLIGHTING THE NEWCOMERS:
  • Matilda Samervong competed in 12 rounds at Grand Canyon, all as an individual, and posted a 76.4 scoring average.
  • Marta Romero Crespo competed in all 11 tournaments and 27 rounds at Oklahoma Baptist, posting an 80.5 scoring average … She also helped lead the program to its first NCAA Central Regional appearance since 2019.
  • Siria Ballini posted a 76.1 scoring average across 12 tournaments, according to the European Golf Rankings … According to the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Ballini recorded 18 top 10 finishes in 32 events, including six top 10 performances in 2026.
FALL SCHEDULE: The Cardinals have four tournaments on their fall schedule:
  • Tulane Classic (Sept. 8-9 in Avondale, La.)
  • Lady Clerico (Sept. 14-15 in Bartlesville, Okla.)
  • The Robbie (Oct. 12-13 in Franklin, Tenn.)
  • The Judson (Oct. 26-27 in Hattiesburg, Miss.)
SPRING SCHEDULE: The annual Cardinal Challenge will not be held in Beaumont this season, marking the first time the event has not been contested since its cancellation during the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season.

The Cardinals will compete in eight tournaments during the spring season, including the Southland Conference Championships:
 
  • Battle at Bentwater (Feb. 1-2 in Montgomery)
  • Golf Club of Houston Invitational (Feb. 8 in Humble)
  • Islanders Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 15-16 in Corpus Christi)
  • West Texas Classic (March 1-2 in Abilene)
  • Riverbend Intercollegiate (March 8-9 in Sugar Land)
  • Magnolia Collegiate (March 15-16 in Mobile, Ala.)
  • Golfweek Spring Challenge (March 29-31 in Pawleys Island, S.C.)
  • Southland Conference Championships (April 12-14 in San Marcos)
RECAPPING LAST SEASON:
  • The Cardinals posted a 77.8 scoring average during the 2025-26 season, competing in 162 rounds and recording 12,618 strokes.
  • Lamar finished sixth at the Southland Conference Championships with a 54-hole total of 905 (303-296-306).
  • The Cardinals lost four players from last season's roster, including two seniors to graduation and two others through the transfer portal.
TULANE CLASSIC PARTICIPANTS: Tulane, Georgia State, LSU, Loyola New Orleans, Jackson State, Howard, West Florida, Tarleton State, Lamar, Southern, San Diego State, Samford and Southern Miss.

COURSE INFO: TPC Louisiana features five sets of tees ranging from 5,121 yards at the forward tees to 7,400 yards from the championship tees … The course has hosted the Zurich Classic, the region's only PGA Tour event, since 2005.
