BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Lamar University sits one stroke off the lead and is tied for second after Monday's opening day of the Lady Clerico at Hillcrest Country Club.
The Cardinals posted a 36-hole total of 604 (300-304) and are tied with UT Rio Grande Valley and Oral Roberts. Houston Christian leads the field at 603 (301-302).
Matilda Samervong paced Lamar by climbing to the top of the individual leaderboard.
Samervong shot a first-round one under par 71, recording two birdies and 15 pars.
She had eight consecutive pars to close out the front nine before playing the back nine at two under.
Samervong followed with another strong round, carding two birdies on the front nine and finishing the day with five birdies overall.
She holds a three-stroke lead over Oral Roberts' Anna Swan entering the final round.
Kamaya Moodliar closed her second round with three birdies to shoot even par on the back nine while
Marta Romero Crespo added three birdies and 22 pars on the day.
Moodliar and Romero Crespo are tied for 14th place in the individual standings.
As a team, Lamar recorded 16 birdies and a tournament-best 112 pars. The Cardinals' 16 birdies rank fifth among the field.
Lamar, UTRGV and Oral Roberts enter the final round five strokes ahead of fifth-place UT Arlington.
