Cardinals Tie for Third in Southland Preseason Poll

FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University has been picked to finish tied for third in the 2026 Southland Conference Women's Soccer preseason polls announced league officials Thursday morning. The Cardinals received two first-place votes and earned 74 points from the 11 conference institutions that voted in this poll.
 
LU shares the spot alongside defending conference tournament champion Houston Christian, who received one first-place vote. Last season's number one seed, Northwestern State, was given the top spot with 96 points and seven first-place votes while East Texas A&M is second with 76 points. Stephen F. Austin earned the remaining first-place vote and totaled 66 points to round out the top five.
 
The Cardinals finished the 2025 season 7-8-5 overall and 3-3-4 in the conference placing sixth in the standings. LU hosted the Southland Conference Championships and advanced to the semifinals. 
 
LU will host an exhibition game Wednesday, August 5th at 6 p.m. against Blinn College. The regular season opens on August 12th, at UTEP. The game will kick off at 8 p.m.
