Cardinals get back into win column with 9-5 victory over Tulane

BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University snapped a four-game losing streak with a 9-5 victory over Tulane on Tuesday night at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

The Cardinals struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, capitalizing on two Tulane errors.

Hector Rodriguez hit a ground ball to third that was misplayed, allowing Beau Durbin to score from second for a 1-0 lead.

Tulane answered in the top of the second when Tye Wood worked a one-out walk and Matthias Haas doubled to left.

James Agadebis followed with a sacrifice bunt that plated the tying run.

The Green Wave added two more runs in the third, taking advantage of a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly to center by Hugh Pinkney to go ahead 3-1.

LU responded immediately with a four-run rally in the bottom of the third.

Rodriguez and Lane Sparks each delivered RBI singles, and Brayden Evans brought home Jake Wagoner with a sacrifice fly to left, pushing the Cardinals back in front, 4-3.

Tulane reclaimed the lead in the fourth on a two-RBI double to left center by Jason Wachs, making it 5-4.

Momentum shifted for good in the bottom of the sixth as LU used a two-out rally to regain the lead.

A.J. Taylor drove in the tying run with an RBI single to center, then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch to put LU ahead 6-5.
