Red-Hot Cards Heading to Waco to Meet Baylor

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Completing an undefeated seven-game homestand, Lamar University's red-hot win streak has reached 13 games following a sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Cardinals will hit the road to Waco for their final non-conference game of the season Monday against Big XII-foe Baylor. The game will start at 5 p.m. and be streamed on ESPN+.

PREVIOUSLY
The Cardinals (24-15, 11-4 SLC) swept Corpus Christi by scores of 8-0 (5 Inn.), 8-7 and 9-0 (5 Inn.). Isabella Flores batted .600 in the series with three home runs (including a walk off), nine RBIs and a double. Pitchers Reagan Smith and Kaylee Cuevas pitched complete-game five-inning shutouts to earn wins in the circle.

ISABELLA – RBI QUEEN AS A FRESHMAN
With nine RBIs in the most recent series, Flores is now the LU single-season record holder with 45. This breaks the previous mark held by Shelby Henderson (2018). She is currently second in the conference behind UIW's Victoria Altamirano (51) and is tied for fifth in the nation amongst freshmen alongside Kali Austerman (Alabama A&M).

WALKING OFF WITH MORE RECORDS
Flores' three-run homer Saturday was her third walk-off hit (second walk-off HR) of the season. She also established a school record with the most walk-off RBIs (7). It was also the eighth walk-off victory for the Cardinals, which broke the single-season record held previously by the 2013 and 2017 teams.

HOOKS 150
LU's 8-0 five-inning victory in game one of the Corpus Christi series was the 150th in the head coaching career of Amy Hooks. In her eighth season with the team, she has already led the Cardinals to their fourth-straight 20-win season and is just 16 wins shy of the all-time record.

THE COMEBACK OF ALL COMEBACKS IS A SHARED COMEBACK
The Cardinals' seven-run comeback against Corpus Christi in game two matched the all-time biggest comeback in program history. On Feb. 24, 2018, the Cardinals were down 9-2 in the sixth inning against Alabama A&M before rallying back to win, 10-9 in eight innings.

UH-OH, CARD-DEE-O
Big Red has the Southland Conference's second-best run-producing offense with 230 RBIs, trailing UIW (248). LU is third in the conference in runs scored (248), triples (11) and total bases (511), but leads with 23 doubles and 45 hit by pitches.

OPPONENT INFO: Baylor
Time: Monday at 5 p.m.
Series Record: BU leads 11-1
Last Meeting: LU, 8-6 (Mar. 12, 2025)

LAST TIME VS. BAYLOR
The Cardinals earned their first-ever victory over Baylor, 8-6, last season in Beaumont. Wilson led the LU offense with three RBIs on three hits while Gracee Hess and Ava Blakely combined to score four runs. Reagan Smith earned the win in relief with 4.1 innings of one-run, three-hit ball.

ABOUT THE BEARS
BU (23-14, 5-5 Big XII) dropped two of three to Houston over the weekend, which included a 3-2 loss in 15 innings Thursday, the longest regular-season game in Big XII history. Despite taking the loss, Cambree Creager set a BU program record with 250 pitches thrown and allowed three runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts. The sophomore from Georgetown is tied on the team with seven wins and 57 strikeouts in 94.1 innings.  Amber Toven has been the Bears' spark plug offensively with 43 hits and 35 RBIs.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals will head to Hammond, La. to take on the conference's lone undefeated team in Southeastern Louisiana. Friday's doubleheader will open at 4 p.m. while Saturday is a noon start.
