MOBILE, Ala. — In the third-to-last midweek game of the season, Lamar University fell to South Alabama, 6-1, on Wednesday night at Stanky Field.
The Jaguars took advantage of four walks in the bottom of the second inning to build a 2-0 lead, with three consecutive free passes issued — two coming with the bases loaded.
South Alabama extended its advantage to 5-0 in the fifth inning, collecting three doubles.
Duncan Matthews and Stewart Puckett recorded back-to-back doubles before Blake Guerin drove in a run with a single to right center.
Robert Miranda added the third run of the inning with a double to left center.
LU broke up the shutout in the top of the sixth.
Lane Sparks drew a leadoff walk, followed by a one-out walk to
Hector Rodriguez, setting the stage for
Beau Durbin's RBI single through the left side.
The Jaguars scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth when Matthews drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded.

- The Cardinals had only seven hits.
- Jake Wagoner finished 2 for 4 with a single and a double.
- Kevin Duran had two singles and a walk to go 2 for 3.
- Durbin finished 1 for 4 with a single and an RBI. Durbin tallied his 29th RBI of the season while extending his hitting streak to nine games.
- Braden Benton had a single to finish 1 for 4.
- Colby Christian finished 1 for 2 with a single.
- The LU pitching staff had a total of eight strikeouts.
- A.J. Kostic struck out four batters in 2.1 innings of relief while allowing two hits and no runs.
