BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University's volleyball team has added another player to its roster with the signing of Madelynn Coy, a Rosenberg native and standout at George Ranch High School.

Coy joins a signing class that now features five high school freshmen and four transfers.

The freshman class also includes opposite Gabrielle St. Louis (Houston / Fort Bend Dulles HS), setter Katelyn Hughes (Cedar Park / Cedar Park HS), outside hitter Leila Ceaser (Conroe / Oak Ridge HS) and middle blocker Rihanna Bryant (Pflugerville / Weiss HS).

The transfer class is composed of outside/right side Grace Hill (Texas Southern), middle blocker/right side Nisaan Martinez (Alabama A&M), middle blocker Kimaya Webb (UT Permian Basin) and defensive specialist/libero Kiana Souza (Weatherford College).

LU posted the biggest turnaround in 2025, finishing fifth in the Southland with a 17-15 overall record and a 10-6 league mark under head coach Ariel Apolinario, who enters his third season.

The Cardinals also recorded back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2008-2009 and qualified for the conference tournament in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2010-2011.

Apolinario on Coy: "Maddy is a highly accomplished athlete and a versatile pin attacker with a big arm. She has been exposed to the highest level of club while acquiring great knowledge over the past few years. We are fortunate to be able to add someone with Maddy's traits this late in the year. We did not add just a good volleyball player, but a good person that cares deeply about her family, friends and academic success."
