Cardinals explode for 15 hits in 11-1 run-rule win over Nicholls

THIBODAUX, La. — Lamar University's offense totaled 15 hits to salvage the series against Nicholls with an 11-1 win in seven innings Sunday afternoon on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.

LU recorded its first 10‑run rule victory of the season, the program's first since May 10, 2025.

The Colonels grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly to center by Caston Thompson.

Hector Rodriguez evened the score in the second with a leadoff solo home run to right field.

LU rallied for three runs in the top of the third to extend the lead to 4-1.

Brayden Evans sparked the inning with a one-out single to right center then came around to score when Lane Sparks lined an RBI triple to the same gap.

Beau Durbin followed with a groundout to first that plated Sparks.

The inning continued as Rodriguez singled through the left side, and Kevin Duran capped the rally with an RBI double down the left field line.

LU added two more runs in the fifth inning.

Durbin drew a one-out walk, and Rodriguez followed with a double into the right center gap, setting the stage for Duran's two-RBI single up the middle.

The Cardinals erupted for a five-run rally with two outs in the seventh inning.

Easton Culp started the surge with an RBI single through the right side and Evans and Durbin followed with two-RBI singles to push the Cardinals' lead to double digits.

LU's bullpen duo of Hayden Stallings and Julius Carpio limited the opposition to three hits and one walk while striking out three.
