BEAUMONT, Texas — BYU starting pitcher Austin Park carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning while the offense collected six doubles in a 4-0 victory over Lamar University on Monday night at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The matchup marked the first time in program history that the Cardinals hosted two Big 12 opponents in the same season.
LU moved to 11-5 in Monday games since 2000 and 5-3 during that span at home.
BYU applied pressure early by loading the bases on a double, single and a walk, but Lamar escaped the jam when
Hector Rodriguez helped turn an inning-ending double play.
In the top of the third, Parker Goff recorded the second leadoff double of the game, and Luke Anderson followed with a single to left to put runners in scoring position.
Easton Jones then delivered a two-out, two-RBI double to center field to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
Park's no-hitter was broken up in the bottom of the fourth when
Lane Sparks singled to right.
BYU totaled five hits over the first three innings before being held hitless until Jones led off the sixth with a double.
The Cougars struck again in the seventh with their fourth leadoff double of the night.
After Anderson doubled, Ezra McNaughton drew a walk and Ryder Robinson reached on a bunt single.
Anderson scored from second on an errant throw to extend the lead to 3-0, and Jones later grounded into a double play that allowed McNaughton to score the final run of the contest.
