HAMMOND, La. – Lamar University ran into a buzzsaw of strong pitching by Southeastern Louisiana, which ended the Cardinals' 14-game win streak by sweeping the doubleheader, 8-0 (5 inn.) and 8-1 Friday evening. The losses drop Big Red to third in the Southland Conference behind UIW, which swept Northwestern State.

The Cardinals (25-17, 11-6 SLC) managed two hits in each contest. LU broke a no-hit bid in the fourth inning with singles from Ariel Flores and Cala Wilson in game one. Reagan Smith pitched four complete innings but was tagged with her third loss of the season.

Flores opened game two with an RBI double in the first to give LU the early 1-0 lead only for the Lions to answer with eight unanswered runs, including six in the second. Gracee Hess led off the third with a single but was left stranded. Pitcher Madison Guidry (6.0 IP) took the loss in the circle.

LU will look to end Southeastern's 22-game win Saturday with a noon start for game three.
