BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University hosted an introductory press conference for new head men's basketball coach Jordan Fee Tuesday morning at the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center. Fee, who is coming to LU from Florida Atlantic where he served as associate head coach, is the 13
th head coach in program history.
"While I understand that much of today will be focused around me," said Fee. "I want to begin by acknowledging how unequivocally untrue that that thinking would be. Today is about all of us who represent the past, present and future of Lamar men's basketball. This is a dream come true to be named the head men's basketball coach at Lamar University."
More than 100 fans, students and university administration arrived to welcome Fee to the Golden Triangle. While Fee comes to Lamar from FAU where he held the title of associate head coach, he has experience being the man in charge serving as the head coach at NCAA Division II Gannon University where he led a revitalization that had never been seen before on the hardwood. The Golden Knights posted a 3-23 record the year before Fee's arrival and he guided GU to a 32-3 record in his one season as head coach. The one-year turnaround is the largest single-season turnaround in NCAA history regardless of level for either men's or women's hoops.
Fee took over as GU's head coach following a year where he helped guide Nova Southeastern to a perfect 36-0 record and an NCAA Division II National Championship. Over the course of his career – as either a head coach or an assistant – Fee has helped coach a National Champion, post a 178-77 (.698) overall record, three NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances, four NCAA Division II tournament appearances, three South Region Championships, three conference regular season and tournament titles and recruited and developed consecutive DII National Players of the Year.
"The candidate pool was deep, experienced and highly competitive and that made this decision both exciting and demanding," said LU Vice President and Director of Athletics
Jeff O'Malley. "With that level of interest, standing out is not easy but Jordan stood out. One thing became clear very early in the process – no matter where Jordan has been, success has followed. We're exciting to be handing him the reins."
