The Cardinals (13-15, 2-4 SLC) earned their first series victory over SFA in seven seasons at the LU Softball Complex. After losing a heartbreaking Game 1, 4-2, LU pulled out some late comeback magic in each of the last two games to win by scores of 6-5 and 7-5, respectively.
ISABELLA FLORES WALK-OFF HEROICS
Isabella Flores batted .454 (5-of-11) in the series, which included a three-hit, four-RBI day in Game 2. One of those three hits was a three-run walk-off homer. This was Flores' second walk-off hit of the season after she drove in the game-winning run on a single in the bottom of the 11th inning against Illinois (Feb. 6th). It was also the second four-RBI performance after she achieved that against Morehead State (Feb. 27th). Flores remains LU's leader in hits (30), batting average (.357) and RBIs (22).
A SPECIAL DOUBLE FOR CALA WILSON
Wilson drove in three RBIs on two hits in Saturday's series-clincher. With two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, the Ruston, La. sophomore brought them both in with a double to right-center to give the Cardinals the lead, which they wouldn't relinquish. That was her 21st career double, which has her tied for 10th all-time along with Shelby Henderson (2017-18).
FINISHING WHAT CUEVAS STARTED AGAINST SFA
Cuevas went 1-1 in the circle with a 2.62 ERA and four strikeouts in eight innings in her two appearances versus SFA. In game one, she shutout the Ladyjacks for six innings before SFA rallied back for three runs. She came back Saturday for game three and pitched 1.2 relief innings of shutout ball while the Cardinals pulled out a comeback victory to give her the win. As of now, she leads the team in ERA (4.41) and innings pitched (44.1).
