BEAUMONT, Texas — After a week away from competition, the Lamar University women's golf team returns to action at the two-day West Texas Classic, held Monday-Tuesday (March 2-3) in Abilene.
This tournament marks one of only three remaining events on LU's regular season schedule.
Each day of competition begins with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Karolina Krasova delivered her best finish of the season at the Islanders Collegiate Invitational in Corpus Christi, tying for 11th overall.
She also posted her lowest round of the season with a final round of 72.
LU finished sixth in the 10-team field.
HIGHLIGHTING THE SEASON
Krasova has been a consistent for LU, carrying a 76.5 stroke average across 18 rounds.
Kamaya Moodliar follows closely with a 77.3 stroke average, including an improved 76.5 average in spring competition.
Moodliar has recorded a team-best four rounds of par or better and owns LU's top 54-hole score of the year (218), set in the fall at the Wolverine Invitational.
SPRING DEBUT
Brooke Frerichs will compete in her first spring event after posting a team‑best 75.6 stroke average during the fall across 12 rounds.
Aaniyah Bhola also returns to the lineup after recording a 78.0 stroke average in the fall, also over 12 rounds.
WEST TEXAS CLASSIC
The West Texas Classic returns for its second straight year.
Last spring, extreme high winds forced the cancellation of the final round. LU finished 15th out of 16 teams.
This season's event will be played on the North Course at Abilene Country Club, a par 71 layout measuring 6,310 yards.
Last spring marked LU's first competition in west Texas since 1999 when the program played in the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic in Lubbock.
A total of 17 teams are set to compete, which includes Texas Tech, Texas Southern, Drake, Abilene Christian, Utah Valley, South Dakota State, Prairie View A&M, A&M-Corpus Christi, Toledo, Incarnate Word, Stephen F. Austin, UT Arlington, Northern Colorado, UTEP, Bowling Green and Oklahoma City University.
