BATON ROUGE, La. – The Lamar University men's tennis got its busy road trip out to a great start with a shutout victory Friday evening at Southern University. The results, which were not released until early Saturday morning, saw the Cardinals post a dominating performance on each individual court for the 7-0 decision.
Now winners of consecutive matches (2-6), Lamar swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead and never let their foot off the gas in the transition to singles. It was a 2-0 lead after sophomore
Maxwell Lindstedt's 6-3, 6-1, decision over Sebastian Byng at the No. 2 spot.
Junior
Leon Nickel made it a 3-0 decision with his straight-sets decision at No. 1 singles. Nickel showed very little mercy defeating Lwazi Ngwenya, 6-1, 6-1. Nickel gave the Red and White a 3-0 lead and put Lamar on the verge of the overall team victory. Lamar didn't have to wait long for the decision as the Cardinals closed the day taking the final three singles matches.
