BEAUMONT, Texas — It was another dominant outing from
Chris Olivier.
Olivier delivered seven hitless innings with 11 strikeouts to help Lamar University secure a 1-0 victory over the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros on Saturday night at Vincent‑Beck Stadium.
The right‑hander has now thrown 18.2 consecutive scoreless innings across three appearances, piling up 28 strikeouts in that span.
The game's lone run came in the first inning.
Beau Durbin opened the frame with a ground‑rule double to right, moved to third on
A.J. Taylor's sacrifice bunt, and scored when
Tab Tracy drove him in with a groundout to the pitcher.
Olivier was in complete control, retiring 20 of the 23 batters he faced.
UTRGV's only baserunners over the first seven innings came on a pair of leadoff walks and a defensive miscue.
The Vaqueros managed just two balls out of the infield and hit six groundouts, including a double play in the fourth.
Olivier also struck out the side in the sixth.
UTRGV threatened in the eighth after Chayton Fischer sent a one‑out ground‑rule double to right‑center.
Diego Villescas drew a walk, and Andrew Taylor reached on a catcher's interference to load the bases. But the Cardinals escaped the jam with a double play as Taylor stepped on second and fired to
Reese Beheler at first for the inning‑ending out.
Nathan Darden handled the ninth, striking out the first two batters before inducing a groundout to second to close out the win.
RECORDS: LU (7-4, 2-0); UTRGV (3-7, 0-2)
