Durbin delivers walk-off as Cardinals sweep UTRGV

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beau Durbin delivered the walk-off win on Sunday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium, shooting an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the 10th to secure a 2-1 victory and complete Lamar University's sweep of UT Rio Grande Valley.

The sweep was LU's first three-game sweep of the Vaqueros since 2006.

LU struck first in the opening inning when Theo Kummer lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring a run with the bases loaded.

A.J. Taylor and Tab Tracy recorded back‑to‑back singles, and Braden Benton worked a walk to set up the opportunity.

UTRGV answered in the top of the second, putting two on quickly with a walk and a bunt single.

A sacrifice bunt by Diego Villescas led to a wild throw that allowed the tying run to cross.

LU had a prime chance to end the game in the ninth with the bases loaded but couldn't convert.

Kevin Duran singled up the middle to start the 10th inning and moved to second on a passed ball.

Jake Wagoner then hit a comebacker and reached second as Duran was caught in a rundown for the first out.

After a pop up to short, Durbin eventually came through a batter later, sending a hard grounder up the middle to score Wagoner from second and seal the win.

RECORDS: LU (8-4, 3-0); UTRGV (3-8, 0-3)
