MONROE, La. – Junior
Makenzie Wright produced three RBIs while freshman
Kinlee McGuire ended Friday's game with a walk-off RBI groundout to lead Lamar University to a 9-1 five-inning, run-rule victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the UL Monroe Best of the Bayou Tournament. This was the fourth walk-off victory of the season for the Cardinals.
LU finished with five hits and drew nine walks in the game. Wright recorded two RBI singles, while her third RBI came off a bases-loaded walk. Along with McGuire, five other Cardinals picked up an RBI in the game, including
Cimara-lei Wessling, who added a single and a walk.
Kaylee Cuevas (one run, two hits, six strikeouts) got her first win of the season in the circle.
LU scored six runs in the second inning. Four of those came from bases-loaded walks before Wright singled in
Sicily Windham and Wessling. Cuevas started the game, retiring the first six batters she faced, but the Lions broke through with a run in the third. Cuevas would be unhittable for the last seven batters she faced.
Riley Whitley led off the fourth with a single and was subbed for by McGuire, who scored off Wright's second RBI single of the game. LU loaded the bases to start the fifth inning. Barrett came on to pinch hit for Windham and sent a fly out deep to score
Kalie Amos from third. McGuire then grounded out to third, which allowed
Ariel Flores to score and end the game early.
LU has two games Saturday, against Northern Iowa (12:30 p.m.) and the home team Warhawks (5:30 p.m.).
