BEAUMONT, Texas — On the brink of the first 3-0 start since 2023, the Lamar University baseball team took on Oakland University for the series finale Sunday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The Golden Grizzlies avoided the sweep by pulling off a 3-2 win in 10 innings.
Oakland scored the first run on a leadoff solo home run to center off the bat of Lucas Day in the top of the second.
LU had a golden opportunity to break the game wide open in the bottom of the third, however it left the bases loaded.
Oakland made the score 2-0 in the top of the fourth by taking advantage of a catcher's interference and three walks.
On three straight doubles, LU ended up tying the game in the bottom of the seventh.
A.J. Taylor hit a leadoff double down the left field line and then
Beau Durbin followed up with an RBI double to center.
Brayden Evans delivered the game tying RBI double down the right field line.
The Golden Grizzlies took the lead on a pinch-hit RBI double to left center by Jack Lux in the top of the 10th.
