| By:
FRISCO, Texas – The Lamar University at McNeese Battle of the Border Contest on Saturday, Jan. 2nd has been picked up by ESPNU announced the Southland officials Tuesday morning. Its marks the second consecutive year the game has picked up as one of the Southland's linear broadcasts.

The contest is one of seven linear broadcasts for the league. The official start time for the game has been moved to a 7:30 p.m. start from the Townsley Law Arena.

The Cardinals opened their 2026-27 campaign Monday evening led by first-year head coach Jordan Fee. Big Red defeated Schreiner, 124-62, in one of the biggest offensive outputs in program history. McNeese is also 1-0 after a season-opening win over UAB in the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon.

The rivalry, which Lamar leads, 62-60, has taken on more weight in recent years with several one-score contests to go along with the 2024-25 season where both teams met in the SLC Championship game.
