Cardinals are Consensus Top 10 After Recent Victory

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University has climbed into the top 10 of every major NCAA FCS football poll following Saturday's thrilling win over UIW in Beaumont. The Cardinals took control of the game early with a dominant ground attack and held off a late UIW charge to move to 5-1 on the season and into a tie for first place in the Southland standings (3-0). The Cardinals have now won four consecutive games.

The Cardinals jumped two spots in the FCS Coaches poll to sit eighth heading into their week 7 showdown at Southeastern Louisiana and moved one spot to 10th in the STATS Perform FCS Top 25 poll. The Cardinals are also eighth in the FCS Triumvirate and 10th in the FCS Nation and Redshirts polls.

The release of the polls came just hours after junior running back Jojo Uga (offensive) and sophomore punter Mason Stallons (special teams) were named Southland Conference Players of the Week. Uga currently leads the Southland averaging 66.0 rush yards per game with four touchdowns.

Big Red returns to action Saturday when they travel to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern Louisiana. The contest against the Lions will kick off at 4 p.m. from Strawberry Stadium.
