Wilson Scores Career-High 29 Points as Lamar Chops SFA's Win Streak

Cardinals Now Second in Southland Standings

BEAUMONT, Texas - Kamryn Wilson's career-high 29 points helped Lamar University to halting Stephen F. Austin's seven-game winning streak, 73-63, Thursday at the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center. With a six-game winning streak and still unbeaten at home, LU has sole possession of second place in the Southland Conference standings and trails McNeese by just a game.

Wilson made 12-of-20 from the field, including five of LU's six three-pointers. Jacei Denley tallied 10 points and dished out six assists, along with R'Mani Taylor, who scored eight points. Both Solenne Olenga (nine points) and Chisom Oguego (six points) grabbed nine rebounds.

The Cardinals (12-6, 8-2 SLC) finished the game shooting 43.5 percent. They outrebounded SFA, 43-26, and controlled the paint, 32-22. In addition, Big Red scored 24 of the game's 29 second-chance points. LU also became the first team in the conference to hold SFA to under 70 points in a league game.

The first 10 minutes of the game resulted in a 14-14 tie. After trading early buckets, the Ladyjacks converted a pair of threes to lead 10-5. Led by the pair of Denley and Wilson, who combined for 12 points in the quarter, the Cardinals rallied back with nine consecutive points.

The second quarter was all LU as its defense held the Ladyjacks to nine points on 3-of-11 shooting. The Cardinals were up 20-18 with seven minutes to go before Taylor scored eight to key a 16-5 run to finish the first half. Wilson added seven points as the Cardinals shot 43.2 percent (16-of-37) in the first half to lead 36-23 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Cardinals had to withstand a few SFA challenges, but were helped by seven points from Wilson, while Oguego came off the bench to score four points. SFA closed the deficit down to seven with two minutes left in the third quarter. Denley and Wilson pushed the lead up to 52-41 with a mini 6-2 run at the end of the third quarter.

With eight points in the fourth, Wilson finished with 15 in the second half on 6-of-8 shooting to set her career high. LU also received a boost from Olenga, who collected seven points and four rebounds.

LU will resume its schedule with a road trip to Hammond, La., Thursday to take on Southeastern Louisiana at the University Center. The game will start at 6:30 p.m. and be streamed on ESPN+.
