Gabby Baker named Lamar Invitational MVP

BEAUMONT, Texas — Gabby Baker was named the Lamar Invitational's Most Valuable Player this past weekend.

The Cardinals wrapped up the tournament going 3-0 after defeating Cal State Fullerton (3-1), Texas Southern (3-2) and Abilene Christian (3-0).

LU finished undefeated at its own tournament for the first time since 2019.

Baker finished with 57 total digs and seven assists.

She had 27 digs in the five-set match against Texas Southern while she tallied 17 in the four-set victory over Cal State Fullerton.

In the sweep of Abilene Christian, she recorded 13 digs.

Maja Malinowska and Kinley Elms were also named to the all-tournament team.

Malinowska tallied 38 total kills, 36 digs, five service aces and seven total blocks.

She had 15 kills against both Cal State Fullerton and Texas Southern while she served up three aces against Abilene Christian.

Elms tallied 35 kills in the three matches while she also recorded eight digs and eight total blocks.

She finished with 13 kills in the match against Abilene Christian while also having one solo block.
