Gabby Baker earns Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas — Gabby Baker was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

She becomes the first Cardinal to earn defensive player of the week honors since Lauren Stahlman in 2015. 

Baker tallied 95 digs in four matches while she also had 16 assists.

She tallied a season-high 38 digs in a five-set match against the University of Louisiana Monroe.

Averaging 5.5 digs per set for the week, Baker finished the Lamar Invitational with 57 digs as she was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

She had 27 digs during the five-set victory over Texas Southern while she finished with 17 digs in the four-set win over Cal State Fullerton.

Baker closed out the tournament with 13 digs in the sweep of Abilene Christian.

She now has 300 digs in 61 sets played.

Baker leads the Southland Conference in digs while she ranks second with an average of 4.9 digs per set.
