Wilhite Signing

Cardinals Add JUCO Transfer to Backcourt

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – King-Njhsanni Wilhite (San Francisco, Calif.), a two-time All-CCCAA point guard, becomes the fourth member of Lamar University's 2024-25 signing class announced head coach Alvin Brooks Friday morning. Wilhite, a 6-1, 175-pound guard from the City College of San Francisco, is the second transfer in the class and the first from the junior college ranks.

"When I started here as head coach, my goal has always been to get Lamar back to where the program was when I left as an assistant," said Brooks. "If you look back over our success the past two seasons we've had great leadership from our veteran guards. Two years ago it was Chris Pryor leading us to a 19-win season and a spot in the conference semifinals and last year Ja'Sean (Jackson) and Danquez (Dawsey) guided the program to a 20-win campaign and a conference finals appearance. Our focus was to identify players who could provide leadership at the guard spot, be great on-ball defenders and someone who comes from a winning background.

"The City College of San Francisco is one of the top programs in the state of California. They are coming off a state title which is similar to a national championship because California JUCOs do not compete in the NJCAA Championship tournament. Wilhite can score, led his team in assists and was their best on-ball defender and his junior college team runs a similar style to what we run," added Brooks.

Wilhite guided CCSF to a 32-1 (.967) record this past season, including a 17-game win streak to close out the year. Over the course of his two seasons on campus, CCSF posted an overwhelming 56-7 (.889) mark with only two conference losses during that stretch.

Wilhite burst on the scene for CCSF averaging 10.1 points and more than two rebounds and assists per game during, while shooting better than 31 percent from long range and nearly 73 percent from the free throw line. Those number landed him on the conference all-freshman team and earned him first-team all-conference honors.

His rookie season was the launching point for a sophomore campaign that would see him go on to average 11.9 points, 2.4 rebound and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 41 percent from three-point range (56-of-137) and lead CCSF to a California State Title.

A two-sport star at Riordan High School, Wilhite was a standout cornerback on the gridiron in addition to his skills on the court leading his prep squad to regional championships.

Wilhite fielded several offers from around the country including Portland State, Southern Utah and Chaminade following his sophomore season at CCSF.

Wilhite's addition continues to expand the Cardinals' successful footprint on the West Coast and via the junior college ranks. Both Adam Hamilton (SLC All-Defense Team) and Nate Calmese (former SLC Freshman of the Year) were signed out of Arizona and Hamilton, Pryor (All-SLC) and Terry Anderson (All-SLC) made their way to the Golden Triangle via the transfer portal.
