LAKE CHARLES, La. - A strong pitching performance from UIW's Larissa Jacquez held Lamar University (28-27) to one hit as Big Red fell 4-0 in the first round of the Lake Charles portion of the Southland Conference tournament. LU now enters the loser's bracket needing to win twice just to reach the semifinal game Saturday.

Cala Wilson recorded the only hit for LU with a fifth-inning single. Reagan Smith took the loss allowing three runs in four innings while striking out three batters. Jacquez (7.0 IP, seven Ks) retired the first 13 batters she faced on her way to a complete game shutout. SLC Player of the Year Victoria Altamirano homered twice to lead UIW on offense.

Lamar looks to keep its season alive as it will take on eighth seeded East Texas A&M Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
