COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Lamar University attempted a late comeback by scoring five runs in the eighth, but ultimately came up short, dropping to the Texas A&M Aggies, 13-6, on Tuesday night at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Matt Ryan hit a one-out double off the wall in left center in the top of the second.
After
Heladio Moreno was hit by a pitch,
Bryce Grizzaffi ripped an RBI double past the third baseman to get the Cards on the board.
Texas A&M then took a 2-1 lead with a two-run home run down the left field line by Ben Royo in the bottom of the third.
The Aggies added a run in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly to center by Royo that brought in Blake Binderup.
Wyatt Henseler hit a leadoff solo home run to left in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 4-1.
Caden Sorrell later scored on a throwing error on a stolen base attempt.
Texas A&M made it a six-run inning with a grand slam to center off the bat of Royo, making the score 9-1.
Sorrell hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, the fourth home run of the night by the Aggies.
Tab Tracy tallied a one-out single in the top of the eighth.
Zak Skinner followed up with an RBI double to right center.
Zane Spinn evaded the tag on an infield single to the pitcher. Ryan then hit a two-run home run to make the score 10-5.
Ruiz made it a five-run inning by lifting an RBI single to right to cut the deficit to four runs.
Sorrell hit his second home run of the game with a two-run shot to center in the bottom of the eighth.
Royo made the score 13-6 by drawing a walk with the bases loaded, giving him eight RBIs for the night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Ruiz extended his hitting streak to 30 games and on base streak to 47 games by going 2 for 4 with two singles, a walk and an RBI.
