BEAUMONT, Texas —
Damian Ruiz rewrote history Sunday afternoon.
Ruiz hit a double down the third base line in the bottom of the fourth to extend his hitting streak to 29 games, breaking the program record of 28 games set by Sam Bumpers in 2014.
Lamar University pulled out the brooms for its fifth three-game sweep of the season by defeating New Orleans 13-3 in eight innings at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
LU's pitching staff was stellar as it struck out 30 batters and walked one during the three-game series.
New Orleans went ahead 2-0 in the top of the second on an RBI single through the right side by Marco Mueses and a sacrifice fly to right that brought in Collin Husser.
The Cards tied up the game in the bottom of the third after an RBI ground out to third by
Zak Skinner and
Tab Tracy scored on a wild pitch.
LU pushed across three more runs in the bottom of the fourth as
Matt Ryan came across the plate after a throwing error by the shortstop.
Brayden Evans then delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to make the score 5-2.
The Privateers picked up a run in the top of the sixth when Alexander Saunier scored after an error.
LU broke the game wide open by scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a seven-run lead.
Ruiz had a two-RBI double down the third base line while Skinner brought in
Bryce Grizzaffi on a ground out to second.
Zane Spinn then came up and delivered a clutch two-RBI single up the middle.
Ruiz led off the bottom of the eighth with a walk and then stole second. Evans followed up with a single to center.
Ruiz later scored on a wild pitch. Tracy then hit an RBI single to right.
Matt Ryan then delivered the run-rule walk-off RBI single to left center.

- Tracy finished 3 for 4 with three singles, two stolen bases and an RBI.
- Evans had two singles and a walk to go 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

- Peyton Havard made his fourth start of the season, going six innings with six strikeouts to improve to 7-1.
- Austin Neal allowed one hit and struck out four in two innings of relief. Neal struck out the side in top of the eighth.
