BEAUMONT, Texas —
Damian Ruiz tied the longest hitting streak in program history as he helped Lamar University notch a 3-2 victory over New Orleans in Game 2 on Saturday night at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
Ruiz extended his hitting streak to 28 games, tying Sam Bumpers who set the record in 2014.
In the bottom of the first, Ruiz hit a leadoff solo home run that went 380-feet over the wall in left field to get LU on the board.
Zak Skinner came through with a clutch two-RBI double down the right field line to extend the lead to three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Privateers cut the deficit to one run in the top of the seventh as Marco Mueses scored on a wild pitch and Diego Villescas brought in a run on a ground out to short.
Luke Krkovski retired the final three batters in order, striking out two of them to seal the deal.

- Ruiz finished 2 for 3 with a single, home run, a walk and an RBI. He also extended his on base streak to 45 games. Ruiz has seven home runs this season.

- The LU pitching staff tallied 11 strikeouts marking the 19th game this season with 10 or more strikeouts.
