Cardinals Track Eyes Texas A&M 44 Farms Invitational

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University will get set to make the first of two trips to College Station this season as it competes in the 44 Farms Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. This will be a two-day event starting Friday.
 
The Cardinals are one of 33 teams competing in this event along with host A&M, the competition field will consist Auburn, Baylor, East Texas A&M, Eastern Michigan, Georgia, Houston, Houston Christian, Illinois, UIW, Iowa State, Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Oregon State, Penn State, Princeton, Sam Houston, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Texas Tech, USC, UT-Arlington, UTSA, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin.
 
LU's last event was at the University of Houston's Tom Tellez Invitational, which saw the Cardinals claim four firsts from javelin throwers Thomas Knoop and Neelie Schiel, high jumper Mariam Buenanueva-Saleme and long jumper Kaleb Robinson. Knoop never trailed in the men's circuit and launched his throw of 67.79 meters (222'05"). Schiel's throw of 43.79m (143.'08") helped the Cardinals sweep the medals in the women's circuit as Cecile Bogliolo (40.29m-132'02") and Madison Langlinais (38.80m (127'03") took second and third, respectively.
 
Robinson won his first long jump event of the season with a personal best 7.47m (24' 6.25"). He placed ahead of senior Solomon Washington from Texas. Buenanueva-Saleme took first place in the high jump with a mark of 1.67m (5'5.75"). She also placed fifth in the javelin throw at 34.66m (113'8").
 
Kayli Johnson qualified for the finals of the 100-meter Hurdles and earned fourth with a time of 13.73. She then joined Kayla Smith, Ahmasia Brown, and Chantell Bowman in the women's 4x100m and the Cardinals crossed the line in second with 45.76.

The meet will open at 11:00 a.m. with the multi-events. The running events will commence at 2:00 P.M, and the running portion starts at 5:45 p.m.
