BEAUMONT, Texas — On Sunday evening, the Lamar University Cardinals claimed the series with a 3-2 win over Stephen F. Austin at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
Chris Olivier did not allow a hit until the top of the fourth when the Lumberjacks got a double down the left field line. Olivier had retired 11 of 13 batters.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third after
Tab Tracy hit an infield single, and
Matt Ryan singled to left.
Brayden Evans drilled a ball off the left field wall to drive in two runs with a double.
The Lumberjacks cut the deficit to one run in the top of the fifth when a run was scored on an infield error.
LU added a run in the bottom half of the fifth when Tracy brought in
Zak Skinner on a groundout to second.
Stephen F. Austin had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the eighth when Dalton Mullins drew a walk to bring in a run.
Austin Neal then tallied back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the jam.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Olivier improved to 2-0 after he tossed a two-hitter in 5.2 innings with a game-high nine strikeouts.
- Neal earned his first save in 3.1 innings of relief as he allowed four hits and struck out five batters.
- The LU pitching staff finished with 14 strikeouts.
- Evans finished 2 for 4 with a single, double and two RBIs to extend his hitting streak to four games.
- Heladio Moreno had two singles to go 2 for 4.
- Tracy went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and an RBI.

- Reese Beheler (1 for 4), Bryce Grizzaffi (1 for 3), Ryan (1 for 1) and Connor Kaiser (1 for 1) all had a single to add to LU's 11 total hits.
