SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Lamar University opened Southland Conference play Saturday in San Antonio against UIIW and the match came down to doubles play. Unfortunately, the league's other Cardinals edged out Lamar, 4-3, after winning the doubles point.
Lamar and UIW proved to be evenly matched in singles play with the good guys taking wins on courts 4-6 while the league's other Cardinals got victories on 1-3. The singles competition saw freshman
Fabian Anthin (No. 4), sophomore
Stefano Chappuis (No. 5) and
Louis Drapeau (No. 6) record victories for Big Red.
UIW took the first victory of the day with a shutout win at No. 3 doubles. The other two courts were locked in tight battles late with UIW taking 6-5 leads on both courts. The duo of Anthin and junior
