HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Trailing 4-3 with two runners on and one out in the last of the seventh,
Veronica Harrison singled in the winning runs for Lamar University (10-9) to complete the 5-4 come-from-behind victory Sunday over Louisiana Tech on the final day of the Southern Miss Black and Gold Challenge. This was the third walk-off win of the season for the Cardinals and the fifth time they won after trailing in the fourth inning.
Â
Harrison recorded three RBIs on two hits to lead LU while
Cala Wilson (hit) and
Sam Flores each drove in a run.
Jayne Sepulveda,
Gracee Hess,
Trinity Brandon, and
Rose Gonzales also picked up hits for the Cardinals.
Madison Guidry earned her fifth victory and third complete game for the season by allowing four runs on five hits and striking out four batters.

Yearning for revenge after losing to LU on Friday, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. The Cardinal bats were silent for three innings as they managed just a walk. When the bottom of the fourth inning started, Hess led off with a single and scored on an RBI double from Harrison. Wilson followed with an RBI single as LU brought itself within 3-2.

While Big Red couldn't capitalize with a runner in scoring position in the fifth inning, it loaded the bases in the sixth. Flores was called upon to pinch hit and the Humble native sent a deep fly out to center that scored Wilson to tie the game at three. Despite allowing Tech to regain the lead in the top of the seventh inning, the Cardinals once again rallied back in the bottom half. Kailie Amos led off twith a double and advanced to third on a Sepulveda bunt single. Sepulveda then stole second to put two runners in scoring position. That gave Harrison the opportunity to step up and drive both runners in with a walk-off single for the 5-4 win.
Â
After being away from the LU Softball Complex for 10 games, the Cardinals return home this week to start a five-game set. First up will be a Tuesday showdown against Texas Southern with the first pitch set to be thrown at 3 p.m.
