Cardinals To Do Battle With SFA

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University (14-10, 2-1 SLC) completed its five-game homestand 4-1, which included a series win over McNeese and a midweek victory over Big XII opponent Baylor. The Cardinals will head to Nacogdoches this weekend to meet with an old rival in Stephen F. Austin (11-13, 1-2 SLC) at the SFA Softball Field. The series starts at 5:30 p.m., Friday while Saturday's doubleheader begins at two.

LU earned its first victory over Baylor by the final of 8-6 Wednesday. Cala Wilson drove in three RBIs on three hits to lead LU while Jayne Sepulveda added two hits. Reagan Smith earned the win with 4.1 innings allowing one run on three hits and striking out two batters.
 
Cardinal Spotlight - Reagan Smith
In the last two games, the UTSA transfer has pitched 11.1 innings and has an ERA of 0.79. She also allowed eight hits and struck out six batters. Smith leads the pitching staff with 24 strikeouts and is second with four wins while being tied for first with three complete games.
 
No Rust for the Ruston Freshman
Cala Wilson, a native of Ruston, La., is in the midst of an 11-game hit streak. This is the ninth time in program history a Cardinal has hit in 10 or more consecutive games. A hit for Wilson Friday would put her tied for the third-longest hitting streak in program history, along with Savana Guidry (2018) and Jade Lewis (2019).

After a 9-2 win over Prairie View A&M Tuesday, SFA sits at 11-13 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Ladyjacks are second in the conference with a .296 batting average which includes two hitters, Kyi'Marri Ester (2nd; .478) and Kaylee Paul (3rd; .429), being ranked in the top 10 in hitting. In the circle, Jordyn Ages has a team-low 2.79 ERA while Reagan Hall leads in wins (four) and strikeouts (31).
 
Up Next The Cardinals will make up their rescheduled contest against Houston Tuesday at the Cougar Softball Stadium. The first pitch will be delivered at 6 p.m.
