NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Arkansas State defeated Lamar University, 4-0, Wednesday afternoon in a neutral-site match at the Schlief Tennis Complex in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The Cardinals (2-7) had an extended delay between matches getting ready for Arkansas State due weather canceling Lamar's previously scheduled match against Southern Mississippi.
The Red Wolves jumped on Lamar early taking the doubles points with victories at Nos. 3 and 1, respectively. LU looked to steal back the momentum in the singles competition as sophomore
Savannah Bijlsma grabbed an early lead over ASU's Carla Muro Castellvi. Bijlsma won the first set, 6-3, and was locked in a close battle in the second but the match was halted after the Red Wolves won matches on courts 6, 1 and 2, respectively.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday, Mar. 1, when they open Southland Conference play against UIW. The match against the league's other Cardinals will begin at 1 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
