BEAUMONT, Texas — On a frigid Wednesday afternoon, the Lamar University Cardinals scattered 16 hits to sweep the North Dakota State Bison, 13-2, in seven innings courtesy of the run rule at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The Cardinals outscored the Bison, 23-5, in the series.
Damian Ruiz started off the contest with a ground-rule double in the top of the first.
Tab Tracy later brought in a run with a single to short.
The Bison tied up the game in the top of the second on a ground out to short.
LU used six hits to put together a six-run frame in the bottom half of the second.
Hector Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch while
Brayden Evans delivered a two-RBI double near the right field line.
Tracy stayed hot at the plate by driving in a run with a single through the right side.
Reese Beheler finished off the inning with a two-RBI double to left to extend LU's lead to 7-1.
The Cardinals got their first triple of the season in the bottom of the third when Ruiz ripped a ball to right center that plated home
Matt Ryan.
Evans later hit an RBI double to right center to make the score 9-2.
LU added two more runs in the fourth when Rodriguez brought in a run on a fielder's choice to second while
Heladio Moreno hit a sacrifice fly to right to bring in Beheler.
The Cardinals took a 10-run lead in the bottom of the fifth after Ruiz scored on a wild pitch.
Kameryn Henderson brought in the final run of the contest when he plated home
Caleb Castle on a fielder's choice to third.
