BEAUMONT, Texas — Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth, the Lamar University Cardinals rallied for seven runs to flip the script and come out with the 7-4 win over the University of Albany Great Danes on a chilly Friday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
Peyton Havard struck out 11 batters, tied for fifth most in a single game in program history.
The rally began with a leadoff single by
Heladio Moreno.
Logan Hamm then followed up with a single to left.
Damian Ruiz tallied the third-straight hit with an RBI double down the third base line.
Brayden Evans drew a walk to load up the bases.
Tab Tracy later cut the deficit to two runs with an RBI single through the left side.
Zak Skinner then pushed across a run on a sacrifice fly to center.
Reese Beheler delivered the game-tying RBI single to right and then
Zane Spinn put the Cards ahead with a single to right.
Moreno came back around in the lineup to rip a two-RBI single up the middle to give LU a three-run cushion.

- Havard went six innings allowing four hits. He struck out the side in the top of the fifth.
- This is the third-straight season in which an LU pitcher strikes out 11 batters in a game.
- Trent Baker earned his first win of the season as he allowed one hit and tallied two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of relief.

- Ruiz went 2 for 4 with a double, single and an RBI to extend his hitting streak to six games. He leads the team with three doubles and eight RBIs.
- Tracy and Ruiz are both leading the Southland Conference in hits.
- Moreno tallied two singles and two RBIs to go 2 for 4. He is batting .571 (8 for 14) in his last four games while riding a four-game hitting streak.
- Beheler and Spinn both went 2 for 4 with two singles and an RBI.
- Beheler is also on a six-game hitting streak.
- Skinner caught two runners stealing in the seventh and eighth innings.
