Cards Host Lions in Nationally Ranked Showdown

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – For the first time in Lamar University history, Provost Umphrey Stadium will host a game between two nationally ranked teams – No. 19 Southeastern Louisiana and No. 20 Lamar University. The Lions currently sit in a two-way tie for first place while the Cardinals are just a loss back of the league leaders.

Big Red enters the week looking to get back in the win column after a tough loss last week at UIW, 24-17, that put an end to the team's seven-game win streak and knocked them out of first place. The Cardinals now look to pay it forward to the Lions who come to Beaumont having not suffered a loss since a Sept. 20th showdown at LSU.  Southeastern has rattled off five consecutive wins, including two shutouts, during that stretch and are currently undefeated in league play.

The Cardinals trail the all-time series to Southeastern Louisiana, 5-11, with only two of those wins coming at home (2-5). While the two teams have split the last two contests, the Cardinals dropped a three-point overtime loss to Southeastern in Beaumont last season.  The Lions have won six of the last seven meetings in the series.

Saturday's contest is set for a 3 p.m. kickoff from Provost Umphrey Stadium and will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 KLVI and streamed on ESPN+.

Series History: Lamar trails, 5-11

LU vs. the Lions
The Cardinals trail the all-time series against Southeastern Louisiana, 11-5, a mark which includes a 2-5 (.286) record in Beaumont. The series, which dates back to the 1967 season, has played all but two meetings since the 2010 campaign. The Lions have begun to pull away in the series lately winning six of the last seven meetings including an overtime victory in Beaumont last season. Big Red's last home victory in the series came during the 2016 season.

Chasing History
Lamar enters Saturday's contest with seven wins on the season - just a win shy of the school record for wins in a single season (as a four-year institution). The Cardinals have hit the eight-win plateau seven times in program history (2014, 1974, 1972, 1961, 1960, 1959 and 1957). The Cardinals still have a shot at the school's all-time record of 10 which was set during the 1949 season (as a junior college).

Winning Record
Lamar's victory at Northwestern State assured the program of no worse than a winning record this season - the third straight under head coach Pete Rossomando. It's the first time the Cardinals have recorded three-straight winning seasons since 1965-67. A win Saturday would give LU eight for the season ensuring the program of at least a one-game improvement from last year. If the Cardinals can get to eight wins, it would mean that Lamar has improved each year under head coach Pete Rossomondo.

The Defense (Does Not) Rests, Your Honor
Lamar's defense has allowed just 22.44 points per game this season, which ranks 28th nationally. If you take away the season opener at North Texas, that number drops to just 18.9 points per game.

Fast Track
LU head coach Pete Rossomando entered the 2025 season with the most wins of any Lamar head coach after two seasons. Despite being just past the midway point of his third season, he already has more wins (20) than any previous LU head coach after their first four seasons.

100 Receptions Club
Senior receiver Kyndon Fuselier became the 10th Cardinal to record 100 receptions in a career. With his four reception of the game Fuselier hit the 100-receptions mark and enters Saturday with 103 career catches for 1,357 yards.
