Huff Named Southland Defensive Player of the Week

| By:
FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University junior Andrew Huff has been named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week announced league officials Monday morning. Huff received the honor for his efforts in Lamar's victory over Southeastern Louisiana.

It marks the second time this season that Huff has received the honor, the fourth time a Cardinal has been named defensive player and the ninth time LU has earned player of the week recognition during the 2025 season.

Huff played a key role in helping Lamar defeat No. 19 Southeastern Louisiana. The league co-leaders entered the game averaging nearly 40 points per game, but Lamar's defense shut down SLU's attack. Big Red held the Lions off the scoreboard until the third quarter and allowed just one touchdown and that came midway through the fourth on a fake field goal.

Huff set the tone for Lamar's defense on the first play sacking the Southeastern quarterback for an eight-yard loss. Huff ended the day with seven tackles (three solos) and two sacks.

The Cardinals will now turn their attention to a Saturday, Nov. 15th showdown with first-place Stephen F. Austin. The game against the nationally ranked Lumberjacks sets up a showdown of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the conference standings. Kickoff for the contest was originally slated for 6 p.m. but has been moved to 4 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium.
