Ashton Rainey set a new 6,000-meter personal best and placed in the top 40 as the Lamar University men and women's cross-country teams each posted top 30 finishes at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational Friday. The men's team finished 20th out of 35 teams with 533 points in the 8k, while the women's team placed 30th out of 38 with 869 points in the 6K.
The host team Aggies won the men's title with 51 points, while Texas Tech freshman Titus Kimaru earned the race victory with a time of 22:36.1. On the women's circuit, Wake Forrest claimed the team title with 78 points, but it was Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore Elizabeth Khatevi (18:56.0), who bested the 19-minute mark to cross the line first overall.
Twelve male Cardinal runners opened the meet at 8:30 a.m. Leading this group was
Adrian Hahn Vadstein, who placed in the top 100 as he placed 96th with an 8K personal-best 24:32.9.
Andres Padron (101st; 24:36.8) was five spots and nearly four seconds behind while
Jonathan Rivera finished 129th at 24:54.6.
Geovany Cisneros (25:17.1) and
Ryan Servantes (25:27.4) clocked in 10 seconds apart in 159th and 176th, respectively.
Riley Trent (207th; 25.49.5) and
Kenny Bibb (210th; 25:51.6) concluded the scoring for Big Red while
Alexis Rodriguez (25:52.2, 212th),
Treyton Showen (26:12.1, 233rd),
Luke Parker (26:55.0; 267th),
Dominick Luna (27:21, 281st) and
Beau Waldrop (29:10.9; 313rd) ended the race for the men.
Forty-five minutes after the men started, the five LU women began their 6K run. Rainey was the first Cardinal to cross the line for LU at 20:42 for 39th. This topped her previous mark of 21.32, which she achieved at the same meet last season.
Hannah Roberts was next to cross in 224th place with a time of 23:25.1.
Anna Eischen (23:30.2) was five seconds behind in 229th place.
Lauren Polk (25:48) and
Eleana Campos (26:03.8) ended the meet by running 283rd and 286th, respectively.
The Cardinals will now set their sights on the Southland Conference Championships on Friday, Oct. 31st. Northwestern State will be the host site for the meet.
