LU volleyball continues three-game homestand

BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University volleyball continues its three-game homestand with a match against Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday.

LIONS AT A GLANCE

2025 SCHEDULE: The Lions come in riding a five-game winning streak … Southeastern Louisiana has not lost a set since Sept. 19 against Loyola Marymount … The Lions began Southland Conference play with a pair of sweeps over McNeese and Nicholls … The Lions haven't lost a conference match since Sept. 14, 2023 … The program has won 35 consecutive conference matches.

2025 RECORD: 10-4 (2-0 SLC)

OFFENSIVE LEADERS: Junior opposite Kyra McKelvey leads the way with 177 kills as she averages 3.69 per set … Senior opposite Alexis Logarbo ranks second on the team with 117 kills … Sophomore setter Ashley Richardson has a team-high 295 assists while senior Peyton Stokley ranks second with 238 assists … Stokley has a team-high 15 service aces … The offense has 648 kills, 825 points and 56 service aces.

DEFENSIVE LEADERS: Redshirt senior middle blocker India Bennett leads the defensive front with 77 total blocks (13 solo blocks / 64 block assists) … Three players have 100 or more digs … Redshirt senior libero / defensive specialist Lexi Gonzalez has a team-high 194 digs … Freshman outside hitter Abigail Bailey is second with 112 digs while Richardson has 108 … The defense has tallied 121 total blocks and 718 digs.

2024 RECAP: Southeastern Louisiana went 26-5 overall and 16-0 in conference play … The Lions captured the regular season title before falling to A&M-Corpus Christi in the conference tournament final.

HEAD COACH: Lee McBride is in his first season at the helm after he was elevated from associate head coach in Jan. 2025 … McBride, a native of Port Neches, began his career working at his alma mater, Lamar University, as an assistant under Katrinka Jo Crawford, helping lead the Cardinals to two SLC titles and two NCAA tournament appearances.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Baker became the first defensive player at LU to earn Southland Conference Player of the Week honors since Lauren Stahlman in 2015 ... Baker earned defensive player of the week honors back on Sept. 22 after tallying 95 digs (5.5 digs per set) in four matches. 

BRINGING THE BOOM: Daniella Udegbunam continues to lead the conference in total blocks with 82 … Udegbunam is third in the nation in total blocks behind Fordham's Tatum Holderied (100 total blocks) and Utah Valley's Bella Wooden (102 total blocks).

FAB FRESHMAN: Kinley Elms is one of two freshmen ranked in the top 10 in kills in the Southland Conference ... Elms has 114 kills, ranking second among SLC freshmen in the offensive category behind UT Rio Grande Valley's Dimitra Nanou.

REWRITING HISTORY: Baker set the program high mark for digs in a five-set match vs. the University of Louisiana Monroe when she tallied 38, which surpassed Kaedon Robinson's mark of 37 vs. Nicholls in 2021 … Udegbunam's 14 total blocks vs. Texas Southern rank as the second highest number of total blocks in a five-set match behind Chelsea Grant's 17 total blocks vs. Sam Houston State in 2014.

MILESTONE MOMENT: LU had two setters eclipse the 1,000-assist mark this season … Jo Moffitt reached the milestone after a match vs. UTRGV … She now has 1,005 in her three-year career … Alexa Gonzalez joined the club on Sept. 7 as she has tallied 1,217 assists in two seasons.

HOME SWEET HOME: After winning its first four home matches for the first time since 2015, LU is trying to post back-to-back seasons of .500 or better at home since 2018 and 2019.
