HOUSTON, Texas - Two school records and a meet record fell for the Lamar University track and field team as they competed in the Tom Tellez Invitational hosted by the University of Houston on Friday. The Cardinals also added a couple of firsts and multiple medal finishes to gear up for the upcoming Southland Conference Outdoor Championship meet.

One of the first place finishes came from the women's 4x100m relay team of Brianna Howard, Kayla Smith, Kayli Johnson, and Sydne Porter, who smashed their own school mark with a time of 44.80. This time also puts them in the top 50 in the NCAA rankings. Along with this display, Howard later claimed third in the 100m running 11.59 seconds and finishing behind two professional sprinters while Johnson was third in the women's long jump leaping 5.97m (19'7").

The other victor was Ethan Ellis, who ran in the 400 hurdles and won by a second (52.12) over the second place finisher. While Kenson Tate earned second place in the men's long jump, he was the top collegiate athlete after producing 7.59m (24'11").

The meet record that was broken came from Freddy Richardson, who was one of the top three athletes to best the previous mark (3:49.66) in the 1500m. His time of 3:48.69 was good for third place overall. Jacarrius Demmerritte and Exavion Harris finished third and fourth respectively in the men's triple jump. Demmerritte had 14.41m (47'3.5") while Harris only missed out on a medal by .20m (46'3.7").

Earlier in the day, three Cardinals occupied top 10 spots in the hammer throw as Alex Williams III (6th) led the way by breaking his own school record tossing 54.74m (179'7"). Calvin Mason (47.07m-154'5") and Anthony Oliver (46.01m-150'11") landed themselves ninth and tenth respectively. Williams III later set a new personal best in the shot put with a second place toss of 16.68m (54'8.75").

With the final regular meet finished, it's time for LU to get ready for the conference meet. Once again, they will return to Houston for the three-day event beginning Thursday.
