The Cardinals posted a 19-wins during the 2023-24 season and advanced to the Southland Conference semifinals. It marked the continued steady growth of the program under head coach Alvin Brooks who posted a 10-win improvement from last season, which was a seven-win improvement from the year before.

To be nominated for the academic all-conference team players must have a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average through the semester prior to the sports' championship, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution prior to the season in which the nomination occurs (true freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and be a starter or significant reserve who has participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games during the current season.
