BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University senior pitcher Brooks Caple has been named to the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year Watch List announced organization officials Friday morning. Caple is the lone Southland Conference pitcher represented on the 14-player list, and one of just three Texans (Ryan Johnson - Dallas Baptist and Ryan Prager – Texas A&M).

A senior from Gunter, Texas, Caple has been one of the leaders of a pitching staff that entered the day tied for first nationally (with #4 Arkansas) in earned run average. Caple played a key role in helping the Cardinals win at least a share of their first Southland Conference title since the 2004 season.

A candidate for Southland Pitcher of the Year honors, Caple has posted a 7-3 (.700) overall record with a 2.29 earned run average and a 0.86 WHIP. Caple has struck out 96 batters in 90.1 innings while holding opponents to a .168 batting average.

Caple currently leads the Southland in ERA, wins and innings pitched, and second in opponents' batting average and strikeouts (but leads the SLC in strikeouts looking).

For his career, Caple has recorded a 12-3 (.800) overall record with 146 strikeouts in 149.2 innings pitched.
