BEAUMONT, Texas – Stepping away from Southland Conference play Wednesday, the Lamar University women's tennis team hosted UL Lafayette at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The match – which was played under the clinch-clinch format – saw the Cardinals (9-11) drop a 4-0 decision to the Ragin' Cajuns.
UL Lafayette took an early 1-0 lead after victories at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to win the point and halt the match on court 2. The Ragin' Cajuns stayed on the attack through the transition into singles taking a 2-0 lead after a straight-sets decision on No. 1 singles.
Freshman
Nouray Metwally was trying to answer back for the Cardinals at No. 4 singles after posting and opening-set victory, 6-1, over ULL's Jenaila Prulla. Unfortunately, the match didn't finish as it was forced to a third set shortly before the Ragin' Cajuns picked up two wins at the bottom of the singles ladder to close out the match.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday when they hit the road for San Antonio, Texas to take on UIW. The match against the league's other Cardinals will begin at 1 p.m.
