BEAUMONT, Texas – Mother Nature didn't favor Lamar University or Prairie View A&M Tuesday as weather delays forced the scheduled doubleheader to one match which began 2:30 p.m. The Cardinals battled through the elements to record the 6-1 decision over PVAMU.
The Cardinals (7-10) opened the match with a dominant performance in doubles. Lamar won the point by taking all three matches surrendering just seven games in the three matches.
Big Red kept its foot on the accelerator as the two teams transitioned to singles. The Cardinals won five of the six singles matches and all five victories came in straight sets. Lamar recorded three shutout sets (all on different courts) and had two different sets where the Cards surrendered just one game.
Martin Garcia-Ripoll recorded one of the shutout sets with his 6-2, 6-0 decision over Abdulraheem Isa at No. 1singles. Junior
Max Amling posted a similar result at the No. 2 spot. He defeated PVAMU's Eduardo Nunez del Prado Flores, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman
Stefano Chappuis recorded the other set shutout victory at No. 6 singles.
The Cardinals return to action Friday when they host UIW. The match against the other Cardinals is slated to begin at 11 a.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
